Altering the timing of your periods

Delaying menstruation

In special circumstances (e.g. an important exam, a holiday etc.) it is possible to postpone your menstruation. With the combined oral contraceptive this is very easy. As soon as you finish the current pack, start the next without a pill-free interval.

You may have spotting or breakthrough bleeding while you are taking the second pack - and further packs if you take the pill without interruption for more than two cycles.

As soon as you want to have your period you can stop taking the pill at any time. You then start the next pack after the usual 7-day pill-free interval.

Bringing your period forward

You can also bring your period forward. To have your period earlier you can leave out the last 1 - 7 pills - one pill for each day that you want to bring your period forward. Then you must wait 7 days before starting the next pack.
