Sexual maturity and pregnancy

A woman is sexually mature when she is physically capable of becoming pregnant. The phase of sexual maturity lasts about 35 years - from the beginning of regular menstruation (periods) to the menopause (the last menstrual period in a woman's life).

The menstrual cycle is the time from the first day of a menstrual period to the last day before the next period (on average 28 days). During this time the sex hormones prepare the female body for a pregnancy. If the egg is not fertilized menstruation occurs and the menstrual cycle begins again.

How a woman feels during her period differs a lot from person to person. There is a lot you can do yourself to enhance your wellbeing during your cycle.

If pregnancy occurs there is no menstrual bleeding. A fertilized egg has become embedded in the lining of the uterus. Hormones also play an important role in maintaining pregnancy, in childbirth and in breast feeding.

Thanks to modern methods of contraception women and men can today enjoy sex and sensuality without fear of an unplanned pregnancy. With effective contraception every child can be a wanted child. By Choice - Not Chance
